Lighting is a powerful and essential element to every environment. Be it offices, homes, schools, colleges or any other institution, life seems to be impossible in the absence of lighting. With the ever increasing cost of fuels and electricity bills, people are now turning towards energy efficient lighting. With the fixtures and dimmers available today, it has become easier to save energy and have optimal lighting at the same time.

Lighting can be categorised into three important parts - accent, task and ambient. Accent lighting can be easily achieved with efficient lighting system. Fixtures and fluorescent bulbs do not make for the right option in accent lighting because of the extreme source of light coming from the fluorescent bulbs and tubes. Nowadays, accent lighting products are manufactures with LED. A wide variety of retro fit LED tribes and bulbs are available in PAR and MR 16 types, although they are highly expensive. Placing dimmers on halogen bulbs and other lighting products make for an ideal choice for an energy conscious purchase.

Second is the task lighting which is generally used to light a particular space. This type of lighting is required at every place where some task is performed, for example, the most common being the laundry room and the kitchen. One of the best ways to save energy in the kitchen is by installing LED or fluorescent beneath the cabinet lighting. There are many companies offering both types of lighting including National Speciality Lighting, Kichler and Lithonia. However, make sure that Kelvin temperature of the lights being used is similar to the other types of fixtures in that room.

Lastly, ambient lighting comes from various sources, however here we will be discussing only two sources being used in this modern day world, the ceiling mount fixture and the table lamp. This is the easiest type of lighting making use of energy efficient sources because the common fluorescent bulbs can fit any type of flush mount fixture and table lamp. Over the past few years, Ottlite and Verilux have carved out a niche market by providing lamps making use of fluorescent bulbs that are very similar to day light.

Therefore, depending upon the quality of life style and living condition, you can chose from any of the above-mentioned lighting to brighten your home or office. Today, people are understanding the importance of energy saving and, thus are opting for this type of lighting.

Mind of Obsession has been my most ambitious short films project to date, filmed in Spring and Summer, 2008. It is a short youtube spoof fictional film running 30 minutes which I produced for my HNC Graded Unit which I got the idea for making after watching the original classic movie online, an Ealing Film, Kind Hearts and Coronets. A moment of inspiration led to months of hard work to produce the final college movie from Willow Creek Pictures. Looking back at this college film, it's full of mistakes, particularly continuity and problems with the spoof film trying to be a period which is no easy task. I look back though on the humrous movies spoof project as being a great learning experience for learning how to make a short film spoof online. I've not been involved with anything as complicated as this project since so it's at the forefront of my mind in terms of being a useful experience to apply to future projects. The spoofs filming used some impressive locations around Edinburgh which included the beautiful setting of the village of Duddingston in Scotland where the Church scenes were filmed at Duddingston Kirk. We were really lucky to film here for free after the kind gesture made by the Minister, James Jack who remains there today. I remember on one of the shooting days, we had a large picnic lunch prepared by James which everyone really appreciated ...

When dress designer Brenda Betalia of BB's Salon (of Savannah, Georgia) goes to work on a custom-made dress, she thinks first of her vision by using Ott-Lites in her salon.
"You'd think that with the economy the way it is right now that custom dress-making would be a business that was struggling," says Betalia, "but it's not."  Betalia explains that since the economy began to slow down, more and more customers who used to buy only at the designer label houses are now coming to her to customize dresses and suits for them.  "Many of my customers are looking for a local American dressmaker to get the tailored custom look they want without worrying about haute couture prices.  Some actually have told me that they are now only going to buy American." 

The fact is that custom dressmaking and tailoring is becoming a less and less common profession.  Fewer people are taking up the trade, so that the few custom dressmakers who are left are getting the lion's share of the work.  The trend in Betalia's case is for a local dressmaker to customize a new outfit that is beautifully made. The reasons are the new patriotism for buying American, and the desire for the bride to save money as well. 
Betalia explained, "I just finished a wedding dress that was so beautiful!  I had my assistant sew in two thousand tiny crystals and we used the most expensive silks; it had a nine-foot train, and still the gown came to only five thousand dollars.  That same dress, if purchased at a high end wedding retailer or department store, would have been at least ten grand. The bride paid for all the bridesmaids' dresses and the groomsmen's tuxedoes with the money she saved using my studio."

While work is plentiful, indeed, Betalia has to turn down some orders these days. She is aware that the long hours she spends working in the salon can put strain on her eyes and the vision of her assistants.  "I use Ott-Lites for the salon," says Betalia.  "One day I saw my cousin, who does a lot of my beadwork, straining her eyes, and I said, 'come on let's go get us some decent lights for the job'."  That day Betalia outfitted BB's salon with desk and sewing lamps by Ott-Lite and with Ott-Lite Full Spectrum 3X Magnifier and Ott-Lite Truecolor Task Light.
